Ministry of National Security to revisit plans for the rehabilitation of the former Department of Correctional Services Staff College building located at Tower Street in Kingston.
This comes from a visit to the site which is located in the car park of the tower street adult correctional centre by the Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security the Hon. Rudyard Spencer, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security Ms. Dianne McIntosh, Commissioner of Corrections Lt. Col (Retired) Gary Rowe, members of the DCS Board of Visitors and other Senior Members from the Ministry of National Security and the Department of Correctional Services.
The tour which was requested by the board of visitors was to examine the state of the building and to identify if it can be designated as a national heritage site. The Department of Correctional Services Staff College was relocated to Run Away Bay St. Ann over 50 years ago.
Minister Spencer and the team also toured sections of the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre, where they examined other buildings in need of repair.
An area which is under the control of Stand Up Jamaica which is allegedly being underutilized was also visited. Minister Spencer said a meeting will be held with Stand Up Jamaica and the Board of Visitors along with a team from the Ministry and DCS to discuss the efficient use of the space.
