Correctional Centre on Thursday April 18, 2019. Commissioner of Corrections Lt Col. (Retired) Gary Rowe encouraged everyone to talk about things that they have seen or know about that is wrong. The Commissioner said if people label you as informers that must not stop you from talking. He opined that talking could have made a difference. Lt Col. (Retired) Rowe challenged staffers to not be victims. He expressed his condolences to the family of CO1 Rouleene Clarke-Gowans who were in attendance as well as staff members.
The vigil was also addressed by Deputy Commissioner Joyce Stone and Superintendent in charge of Fort Augusta Baldwin Collins. They asked staffers to be more caring and considerate and comfort each other during this sad time.
Other members of staff and inmates paid tribute to Ms. Clarke-Gowans as they related stories of interactions with her.
Representatives from the Management of the Department of Correctional Services, the Correctional Services Credit Union, Unions and other Correctional Centres were in attendance.
